MEMORANDUM

Posted: May 4, 2023 02:55 PM
From: Representative Christina D. Sappey and Rep. Carol Hill-Evans
To: All House members
Subject: Expanding Disabled Veterans’ Real Estate Tax Exemption Program

It is important to honor the hard work and sacrifice of all veterans and their families. To ensure our existing property tax exemption program reflects this ideal, we are proposing an amendment to the Pennsylvania Constitution to expand program eligibility.

This bill would remove wartime service requirements for a Pennsylvania veteran that has received a disability rating of 100% by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. The language also ensures the surviving spouse of a member of the U.S. Armed Forces who was killed in action or missing and presumed dead, or who received a disability rating of 100% by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and subsequently passed away, has access to this property tax relief.

This new piece of legislation, based on HB 1032 and HB 1953 of 2021-2022, has been developed with the support of the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs. Please join us in co-sponsoring this bill to provide the property tax relief veterans and their families deserve.
