MEMORANDUM

Posted: May 9, 2023 09:55 AM
From: Representative Ryan A. Bizzarro
To: All House members
Subject: Keeping Seniors Safe at Home

Given the choice, I think we all would prefer to stay as close to home as possible as we age. For many, that requires outside help.

Pennsylvanians deserve to better understand what options are available to them when they need long term care, especially those options that allow them to remain most connected with family and friends. The data shows very clearly that in-home care is vastly less expensive than institutional care.

Simply put, the more who choose in-home care, the less pressure there is on scarce Medicaid dollars.

While patient confidentially is key to the trust necessary to run these programs, participants agree when they sign up to have information shared in order to learn what options are available to them. This legislation will ensure eligibility data is provided in a timely manner to LIFE (Living Independent for the Elderly) programs and applicants will receive information on all programs they qualify for.
