Subject: | Sergeant Earl Duane Barkley Memorial Bridge Naming |
In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation that will honor and recognize a veteran of the Vietnam War who lost his life in service to his country. Sgt. Earl Duane Barkley served in the Vietnam War with E Company, First Battalion, 501st Infantry in the United States Army. On November 9, 1971, Sgt. Barkley died in an explosion in Thua Thien Province, South Vietnam. For his valiant service, Sgt. Barkley was awarded the Purple Heart along with the National Defense Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. In order to honor this Fayette County native, this legislation will designate the bridge carrying State Route 1054 over Indian Creek in Saltlick Township, Fayette County as the Sgt. Earl D. Barkley Memorial Bridge. Please join me in supporting this legislation in his memory. |
