Subject: | Prostate Cancer Resolution |
One in eight men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime, making the disease one of the most common forms of cancer among men. Further, prostate cancer can lay dormant for up to 20 years without symptoms, increasing the chance that a person may be sick without realizing it until it is too late. And while screenings exist in the form of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood tests and digital rectal examinations (DREs), too many individuals do not have access. A proposed law in Congress (H.R. 1826) would require group health plans and health insurance policies to provide health insurance coverage of preventive prostate cancer screenings, without cost-sharing, for men with a family history of prostate cancer. Passage of this proposed law would affect many men with state-regulated and federally regulated health coverage. It is for these reasons that I will be introducing a resolution urging the US Congress to pass H.R. 1826. This resolution would also designate the month of September 2023, as “Prostate Cancer Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania. I believe every man should have access to prostate cancer screenings. Let us work together to protect the residents of Pennsylvania from this terrible illness. Please consider co-sponsoring this legislation. |
