Subject: | Recognizing November 1, 2023, as “Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome Awareness Day” |
Lennox-Gastaut syndrome is a poorly understood severe form of epilepsy that typically affects children between the ages of three and five. The exact cause of Lennox-Gastaut syndrome cannot always be determined and medication is rarely effective at controlling the frequent seizures. Nearly all children with this disorder develop behavioral and intellectual disabilities that tend to worsen over time, and most will require lifetime assistance in some form. Extensive research is still needed to better understand Lennox-Gastaut syndrome in order to develop more treatments that can enhance the quality of life of these children; more importantly, research is still needed to find a cure. For that reason, we plan on introducing a resolution recognizing November 1, 2023, as “Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome Awareness Day” in Pennsylvania. It is essential that we raise awareness of Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and highlight the efforts made by families and researchers in caring for these children. This resolution will honor those we have lost, and affirm our commitment to supporting this community. Please join us in co-sponsoring this legislation, and together let us recognize all the children, adults, and families affected by Lennox-Gastaut syndrome. |
