Subject: | World Cerebral Palsy Day - October 6, 2023 |
Cerebral palsy is a group of disorders that affect an individual's ability to move and maintain balance and posture. Cerebral palsy is the most common movement disability in children and it is estimated that 1 in 345 individuals in the United States are living with this disorder. Cerebral palsy can affect individuals of all genders and races, however, cerebral palsy is found to be more common in boys than girls and more common in black children than white children. Although medications, treatments, and surgery can help those with cerebral palsy improve their movement and communication skills, there is currently no cure. In order to bring attention to the need for recognition, research, and understanding of all individuals living with cerebral palsy, I will be introducing a resolution to designate October 6, 2023, as World Cerebral Palsy Day in Pennsylvania. Please join me in co-sponsoring this resolution that would recognize all children, adults, and families across the Commonwealth that are affected by cerebral palsy. |
