Subject: | Supportive Housing Study |
Access to affordable housing and treatment is becoming increasingly difficult for Pennsylvanians struggling with mental illness, poverty, homelessness, chronic disease, and other disabilities. People dealing with these complex challenges deserve to have stable living conditions and access to the proper care they need. Supportive housing can be a solution for struggling Pennsylvanians in need of housing and support, and has proven to be a cost-effective means of heading off far more damaging and expensive outcomes. My resolution requires the Joint State Government Commission to study the availability and demand for both temporary and permanent supportive housing for Pennsylvanians in need. Policy recommendations and objectives for medium- and long-term needs of supportive housing will be made for the General Assembly to be ready to respond to growing demand for supportive housing. Supportive housing is a cost-effective combination of affordable housing and supportive services that will help give people stability and a path towards recovery. This will provide an opportunity for struggling Pennsylvanians to have a sense of security and access to services that will allow them to live independently regardless of their condition. Supportive housing will change the lives of many people going through these difficult times and it is crucial that we help give them this support. Every Pennsylvanian deserves to have a safe and secure place to call home. I hope that you will join me in support of this resolution. |
