MEMORANDUM

Posted: September 18, 2023 02:12 PM
From: Representative Mark M. Gillen and Rep. Jared G. Solomon
To: All House members
Subject: US Navy Fleet Week, October 9-15, 2023

We will soon be introducing a resolution designating the week of October 9 through October 15 of 2023 as “US Navy Fleet Week” in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

This resolution is in honor of the annual Navy Fleet Week which is being held in Philadelphia from the October 9 to October 15. This event also marks the 248th anniversary of the US Navy’s founding which occurred in Philadelphia on October 13, 1775, and acts as the prelude to the upcoming 250th US Navy & Marine Corps anniversary which will also be held in Philadelphia in 2025.

This week will not only honor the sacrifices made by the brave individuals within our Navy and Marine Corps but will also play host to several events and outreach activities for our military to engage with citizens that may be unfamiliar with their missions and duties. Events such as the docking of two active Navy ships, the USS James E. Williams, and the USS Cooperstown, parades with Navy and Marine Corps personnel participating, engagement with local businesses and schools, military hardware demonstrations, and much more will be held throughout the week with nearly 100 events in total.

Entities such as the Blue Angels, the Navy Parachute Team, Navy Bands, Navy Divers, Namesake Ship & Submarine Crews, and hometown local sailors are also slated to participate in the Navy Week Program to inform and promote the US Navy’s mission alongside local businesses and organizations.

Please join us in recognizing this historic occasion and the hard work and sacrifices made by the brave men and women of our Navy in helping to keep our nation and communities safe.
