Subject: | Michael G. Tsikalas Memorial Bridge |
Michael G. Tsikalas was a native of Ebensburg, Pennsylvania, who served in the United States Navy during World War II and would later serve as the Mayor of Ebensburg for 20 years. Mr. Tsikalas bravely fought on the front lines during the storming of Omaha Beach, arriving on an amphibious land cruiser that was one of the first ships to land on D-Day. Mr. Tsikalas would later work at the Hi-Way Diner for 40 years, and served as a role model while coaching grade school football for over 30 years at both Holy Name Elementary School and Ebensburg Elementary School. Due to his dedicated community service, he was elected as the Mayor of Ebensburg and Cambria County Prothonotary. He was proud to oversee projects such as the Rowena Revitalization Project and the Ebensburg Main Street Program. Michael Tsikalas passed away on May 18, 2022, at the age of 95. In recognition of Michael G. Tsikalas’s service and memory, I will be introducing legislation to designate a bridge on U.S. Route 22 in Cambria Township, Cambria County as the Michael G. Tsikalas Memorial Bridge. Please join me in this effort to honor this local hero and to commemorate his service and memory. |
