Subject: | Local Bridge Condition Assessment Grant Program |
In the near future, I will be introducing legislation that addresses a pressing issue in all of our communities: the need for bridge repairs. Our constituents have long been burdened by deteriorating bridges that pose significant safety risks and hinder economic development. Now we have the opportunity to take action and provide our local municipalities with a solution. My legislation will create the Local, Off-System, Bridge Condition Assessment Grant Program. Fed by a $75,000,000 appropriation from the Rainy Day Fund, the Local, Off-System, Bridge Condition Assessment Grant Program will provide resources to qualifying municipalities with bridges rated by PennDOT as being in poor condition. The grant’s purpose is to provide municipalities with much needed funding to cover most of the costs associated with constructing a new bridge or repairing and/or structurally monitoring existing ones. Qualifying projects include construction, expansion, extension, repair, rehabilitation, structural monitoring, and replacement and all will require a 5% local match by the municipality. The state of our infrastructure is a matter of paramount concern. I hope you will join me in supporting this vital legislation. |
