Subject: | Recognizing Passover and Yom Kippur as Holidays in the Commonwealth |
In the near future, we plan to introduce a bill recognizing Passover and Yom Kippur as holidays in the Commonwealth. Passover is recognized as a celebration of the Israelites’ freedom from captivity. Yom Kippur is a day of atonement devoted to fasting, introspection, and prayer. It is considered the most holy day of the year by Jewish Believers. An estimated 440,000 Pennsylvanians celebrate these holidays. This bill would acknowledge the significance of these holidays. However, the legislation would not mandate paid leave to any employees or the closing of any state institutions on these days. Please join us in co-sponsoring this bill and please do not hesitate to contact any of us if you have any questions. |
