Subject: | Firefighter Cancer Screening |
In the coming days, I plan to introduce legislation to ensure our firefighters and EMS personnel have access to lifesaving cancer and cardiovascular screenings. While heroically serving our communities, first responders are exposed to smoke, toxic gases, and chemicals, putting them at an elevated risk of developing cancer and other health complications. My legislation will require access to cancer and cardiovascular screenings for firefighters and EMS personnel employed by a municipal fire department through the health care benefits plan or program provided by the public employers. Early detection of illnesses like cancer and heart disease is pivotal in saving lives and preserving the health and well-being of those who voluntarily put themselves in harm’s way for you and me. I urge you to join me in cosponsoring this important legislation to assist our first responders and help them lead healthy, meaningful lives as they continue serving our communities. |
