Subject: | Urging Representation and Diversity for Boards of Directors and Senior Management Positions |
Over the last five years, companies across the United States have made progress in increasing racial, ethnic, and gender diversity among their boards of directors and senior management. However, as of 2023, reports suggest that such recruitment practices are on the decline. At the same time, members of the LGBTQ+ community remain one of the most underrepresented groups in leadership positions. For these reasons, it is time that we as legislators stand up for equitable and diverse representation on the boards of directors and for senior management of all Pennsylvania companies, organizations, and institutions. Our resolution follows California’s lead and urges all Pennsylvania non-profit, publicly held, and publicly traded companies to commit to increasing racial, ethnic, gender, and LGBTQ+ diversity in their boardrooms and senior management positions and to set goals regarding the measurement and report of their progress. Research shows that when there is representation and diversity in positions of leadership it boosts innovation, production, and financial results, and improves workplace opportunities for all employees. Please join us in co-sponsoring this resolution to promote the many diverse and qualified individuals who are ready to lead Pennsylvania business into the next century. |
