Subject: | Granting Civil Immunity to Security Personnel Who Protect and Defend Religious Organizations |
In the near future, I intend to introduce legislation to grant civil immunity to security personnel of religious organizations for any injury or loss to property resulting from a security officer’s actions in defense or in protection of a religious organization. Significantly, this immunity will not apply to any security officer who acts in a reckless, malicious, or grossly negligent manner. Religious organizations often view their security personnel as integral to the protection of their congregants and facilities. By granting civil immunity to the individuals who volunteer their time to protect and defend religious organizations, we can ensure that these organizations can freely practice their faith safely and without fear of legal repercussions. Moreover, shielding security personnel from civil liability can save religious organizations significant costs associated with defending against lawsuits arising from security-related incidents. This allows them to allocate resources towards other priorities, including community outreach and charitable endeavors. Please join me in cosponsoring this important piece of legislation to better protect our Commonwealth. |
