Subject: | Honoring Members of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. |
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. was founded in 1913 by 22 collegiate women on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. Those women wanted to use their collective strength to and the power of scholarship, sisterhood, service and social action to promote academic excellence and to aid those in need. Today, Delta Sigma Theta is one of the preeminent service-based sororities, with more than 300,000 predominantly African-American initiated members and over 1,000 chartered chapters worldwide. For more than a century, Delta Sigma Theta has maintained a commitment to social activism, academic excellence, and civic engagement. Delta Sigma Theta has 29 chapters in Pennsylvania, and this year’s Delta Day at the State Capitol in Harrisburg will occur on May 6, 2024. Delta Sigma Theta members from throughout Pennsylvania will come to the Capitol in order to connect with elected officials, advance legislation, and amplify the voices of those they serve. The women of Delta Sigma Theta continue to be magnificent examples of servant-leaders with their outstanding commitment to their communities. This is why we will be introducing a resolution recognizing and honoring the members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. on Delta Day. Following the lead of the members of Delta Sigma Theta, we believe it is important that we, as legislators, do our part to promote leadership, service to humanity and civic engagement. We hope that you join us in sponsoring this legislation. |
