Subject: | Bridge Naming_ Sgt. Skip Haswell Memorial Bridge |
In the near future, we will be introducing legislation designating a bridge carrying Pennsylvania Route 351 over the Beaver River between Koppel Borough and North Sewickley Township, Beaver County, as the Sgt. Skip Haswell Memorial Bridge. Lloyd “Skip” E. Haswell, Jr., was born on October 18th, 1944, in Ellwood City. Sergeant Haswell graduated from Lincoln High School in 1964, and from the Community College of Beaver County with an associate’s degree in criminology. Sergeant Haswell entered the United States Marine Corps, training at Parris Island, Camp Pendleton, and Okinawa Jungle Warfare Training Center. He served in Vietnam as a Sergeant in Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 1st Marines operating out of Chu Lai Airbase from 1966 to 1967. Upon returning home from military service, Sergeant Haswell joined the Beaver Falls Police Department. He was named Policeman of the Year in 1970 and founded the first K-9 unit in Beaver County. Sergeant Haswell was elected Chief of Police in 1984 and retired in 1989. He trained with the United States Secret Service and the Federal Bureau of Investigation while working as a police captain. Upon retirement, he worked as Director of Marketing at the Medic Rescue Ambulance Service, Emergency Defensive Driver’s trainer and as Deputy Coroner with the Beaver County Coroner’s Office. Sergeant Skip Haswell passed away on March 4th, 2024, at 79 years of age in Nokomis, Florida. I hope you will consider sponsoring this legislation and join us in honoring Sgt. Skip Haswell. |
