Subject: | April 2024 as National School Library Month |
School libraries provide a variety of information and programs that benefit students by improving literacy, increasing love of pleasure reading, gaining knowledge, and engaging with others by asking questions. They also offer a positive environment conducive to reading and learning, critical thinking, creative expression, investigation and research, professional growth, and curriculum development and enhancement. School libraries also provide resources and activities that represent a diversity of experiences, opinions, and social and cultural perspectives to support intellectual freedom and responsible citizenship, which is essential for preparing youths for a future characterized by change. These are all important reasons for why we are introducing a resolution to designate April 2024 as “National School Library Month” in Pennsylvania. School librarians have a vital role in providing the leadership and expertise necessary to ensure that the school library is an integral part of school curriculum and student engagement, and we must recognize these professionals for their role in creating an inclusive and relevant academic environment in their communities. Please join us in recognizing and appreciating the hard work and dedication of school librarians and their contributions to the citizens of our Commonwealth. |
