| Subject: | Recognizing June 2024 as “National Immigrant Heritage Month” |
| Immigrants helped create our nation and our state—William Penn, after all, hailed from overseas. Today, there are more than 940,000 immigrants residing in Pennsylvania. These Pennsylvania residents heroically serve on both military and healthcare frontlines, feed our communities, and spark economic growth and innovation. The current and past immigrants in our state deserve recognition, both for what they contribute and for the cultures that have made them such important members of our communities. Immigrant Heritage Month was started to give “people across the United States an opportunity to annually explore their own heritage and celebrate the shared diversity that forms the unique story of America.” That is why, on the tenth anniversary of this celebration, I will be introducing a resolution recognizing June 2024 as “National Immigrant Heritage Month.” Regardless of our ideological differences, we cannot deny that the United States is a nation founded by immigrants. As such, it is only right that we recognize the role that immigrants’ contributions continue to play in our country’s and our state’s success. Please join me in recognizing the rich history of Pennsylvania’s diverse population by signing on to this proposal. |
