Subject: Tuition Increase Transparency Legislation

I soon plan to introduce legislation that will require institutions of higher education to notify students in advance if they intend to increase tuition from the previous academic year.

Under my legislation, institutions of higher education will be required to notify all enrolled students of any planned tuition increases compared to the prior academic year. This notification must be issued at least 45 days before any tuition bill is sent. Additionally, the notification must clearly specify both the dollar amount and the percentage of the tuition increase

Higher education is a significant financial investment for students and their families, often requiring detailed planning and budgeting. By providing an advanced notification of tuition increases, students and their families will be able to better adjust their financial plans accordingly. Further,  this legislation will enhance both accountability and transparency within our institutions of higher education.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this important legislation to support our students and provide accountability to our institutions of higher education.
