MEMORANDUM

Posted: June 21, 2024 03:23 PM
From: Representative Martina A. White and Rep. Kristin Marcell
To: All House members
Subject: Prohibiting Face Coverings in Public Spaces

In the coming days, I will introduce legislation to combat the growing number of antisemitic incidents in public spaces across Pennsylvania, including those on our college and university campuses. Jewish students and residents across our Commonwealth have experienced an unprecedented rise in antisemitic incidents since the October 7 massacre of Israeli citizens, leaving many of our Jewish friends and neighbors living in fear for their lives and safety. Many of the perpetrators who carry out these acts of violence and harassment use masks or face coverings to conceal their identities while engaging in this criminal activity.

My legislation will prohibit the wearing of face coverings and masks in public spaces. Many states across the country have either passed similar legislation or already have similar laws in place, with states like North Carolina passing a similar bill as recently as last week.

Your support is essential to protect our communities by ensuring that face coverings are not used as a tool for criminals to evade justice and accountability. Please join me in cosponsoring this important legislation.
