MEMORANDUM

Posted: July 1, 2024 11:41 AM
From: Representative Barry J. Jozwiak
To: All House members
Subject: Amending the Local Tax Collection Law

I am inviting you to join me in cosponsoring important legislation aimed at modernizing the Local Tax Collection Law to enhance taxpayer convenience and efficiency in the tax payment processes.

Purpose of the Bill: This legislation aims to update and improve the tax payment process by allowing tax collectors to accept various forms of payment. Current law does not speak to the payment method which leads tax collectors to often limit taxpayers to specific payment methods, which can be inconvenient and outdated. By explicitly stating in law that payments via cash, credit card, debit card, check, or money order must be accepted this bill will provide greater flexibility and convenience to taxpayers, potentially increasing timely payments and improving overall efficiency in tax collection.

Supporting Data and Arguments:
  • Increased Convenience: Providing multiple payment options caters to the diverse preferences of taxpayers, making it easier for them to fulfill their tax obligations.
  • Enhanced Efficiency: Multiple payment options can streamline the collection process, potentially reducing the time and resources required to process payments.
  • Modernization: Updating the payment methods aligns with current technological advancements and consumer behavior, reflecting modern financial practices.
I hope you will consider joining me in this effort to improve our tax collection system by cosponsoring this important legislation. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or need further information.
Thank you for your support.
