Subject: Removing Unnecessary Admitting Barriers for Abortion Providers

In Pennsylvania, an abortion facility must have a transfer agreement with a hospital no further than a 30-minute drive. Major public health and medical groups, including The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, believe that these regulations are unnecessary as there is no evidence to support that providers that perform abortions need hospital privileges to ensure a safe outcome for the patient.

For these reasons, we plan to introduce legislation to remove the excessive mandate that abortion providers maintain admitting privileges or have transfer agreements with hospitals, which only causes another obstacle in obtaining access to care. By removing the unnecessary limitations that healthcare providers experience when delivering essential health care, abortion can be more accessible and obtainable to all Pennsylvanians.

Please join us in co-sponsoring this important legislation that would increase access to safe abortion services in the Commonwealth.
