MEMORANDUM

Posted: July 17, 2024 03:56 PM
From: Representative Jason Ortitay
To: All House members
Subject: Dyslexia Month

Dyslexia is a specific learning disability that is neurological in origin and
characterized by difficulties with accurate and/or fluent word recognition, poor spelling, and
decoding abilities.  Dyslexia affects 1 in 5 individuals, impacting people of all ages, races, and
socio-economic backgrounds.
Increased awareness and understanding of dyslexia can lead to early diagnosis
and intervention, significantly improving the educational and life outcomes for individuals with
dyslexia.  It is vital to provide support and resources for educators, parents, and individuals
affected by dyslexia to help them achieve their full potential.

Recognizing October as Dyslexia Awareness Month will promote awareness,
understanding, and advocacy for those affected by dyslexia.
