| Subject: | Municipal and Emergency Responder Solar Grant Program Act |
| We all know that energy costs are among the largest expenses for our local governments. To help our local governments and our emergency service providers reduce these costs, I am introducing legislation to establish the Municipal and Emergency Responder Solar Grant Program. This legislation is modeled after the Solar for Schools legislation that successfully passed the House in June of 2023 and was signed into law as Act 68 of 2024. Under the legislation, the program will issue grants to political subdivisions and local authorities to help fund solar energy projects at political subdivision and emergency service facilities. Grants will cover up to 50% of the costs related to the purchase and installation of solar equipment, including prepayment in whole or in part of a solar lease or power purchase agreement, permit fees, energy storage, utility interconnection and any other costs approved by the department. The goal of this legislation is to help our local governments reduce costs and to also create more jobs and opportunities in a growing sector. Please join me in supporting this legislation. |
