Subject: | Preventing Parking and Stopping in Bicycle Lanes |
Currently, in Pennsylvania, cars and other non-bicycle vehicles can stop, stand, or park in a bicycle lane. This creates a dangerous situation for bicyclists who are just trying to get to work, the store, to exercise or who are riding for leisure. When a vehicle is blocking the bicycle lane, bicyclists often have to go around and onto the main vehicle lanes. This puts them more at risk to an accident and injury rather than if they were able to continue in the bicycle lane. I will be introducing legislation to address this issue. My bill would allow stopping, standing or blocking a bicycle lane when there is an emergency. This bill will save lives and provide added protections and help keep bicycle riders safe and hopefully decrease collisions. Join me and co-sponsor this incredibly important legislation to improve the safety of bicycle lanes. Bicycle lanes should be for bicyclists, not another parking spot |
