MEMORANDUM

Posted: October 3, 2024 09:48 AM
From: Representative Dan K. Williams
To: All House members
Subject: Recognizing October 22, 2024 as “Kappa Alpha Psi Day” in Pennsylvania

In 1911, Ten Black students at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana founded Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated, then known as Kappa Alpha Nu.

Lincoln University, the only historically Black Pennsylvania state-related university, founded the Epsilon Chapter in 1915, making it the first chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi in Pennsylvania and on the east coast. With international headquarters and the Kappa Alpha Psi Foundation located in the City of Philadelphia, these men continue their commitment to serving their communities.

The fraternity has modeled so many Pennsylvanians into the leaders that they are today, embodying the motto “Achievement in Every Field of Human Endeavor.” As such, I will introduce a resolution to recognize October 22, 2024 as “Kappa Alpha Psi Day” in Pennsylvania and commemorate the 113th anniversary of this grand fraternity.

Please join me in celebrating “Kappa Alpha Psi Day” in Pennsylvania, the work of the 22 collegiate and eight alumni chapters in our commonwealth, and the 113th anniversary of the second oldest Black Greek lettered fraternity.
