Subject: | Creating a License Plate for the Arts |
Pennsylvania is renowned for its artistic prowess and beauty. From Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens to the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, artistic attractions exist in every corner of our great state. Projects of all kinds continue to be supported today through the works of agencies such as the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts (PCA), dedicated to strengthening the cultural, educational, and economic vitality of communities across Pennsylvania. The arts play a role in our lives in countless ways. Economically, the creative sector is our 4th largest economic sector, contributing billions to our economy and employing many Pennsylvanians. Many communities have turned to the arts as a means for new identity and revitalization. Tourists are drawn to our world-class artistic institutions, while the arts offer entertainment and enrichment for Pennsylvanians of all classes and backgrounds. To allow Pennsylvanians to show their pride in the arts and spread awareness of their role in our lives, I will be introducing legislation to allow individuals to purchase a special arts license plate. Supporters of the arts could proudly purchase and display these plates, serving as a valuable symbol and show of support similar to what already exists for many other causes, organizations, and institutions. Proceeds from the purchases of this license plate will be appropriated to the PCA, which would use these voluntary contributions in the course of their incredible work and add to the grants they award to fund artistic endeavors throughout the state. I ask that you please consider co-sponsoring this important legislation and help strengthen Pennsylvania communities through the arts. |
