Subject: | Creating the offense of "Masked Intimidation" |
The Covid-19 pandemic has had a lasting impact on our society. From the remote working boom to the massive public health response that inspired social distancing, societal norms have been challenged. Early in the pandemic masking served as the first line of defense in the Covid-19 public health crisis. However, four years post-pandemic, we have seen a significant rise in radicalized masked protesters. In many cases, these masked individuals are engaging in criminally threatening behavior across the country. While basking in anonymity, criminals can keep their identities hidden, evading law enforcement and perpetuating a recent criminally accepted practice of “no face, no case.” Leaders across the country are taking a stand for public safety. This type of criminal violence is not acceptable and should no longer be tolerated. Please join me in co-sponsoring my legislation that will amend Title 18 (Crimes and Offenses) which will create the offense of “Masked Intimidation.” |
