Subject: | Marine Corps Day 2023 |
In the near future, I will introduce a resolution recognizing November 10, 2023 as “Marine Corps Day” in Pennsylvania. The resolution will honor the 248th anniversary of the founding of the United States Marine Corps, and give respect to those who put their lives on the line to keep our country safe. On October 13, 1775, the Second Continental Congress passed a resolution to procure two armed vessels in anticipation of conflict with the British Empire. The Continental Marines was established shortly afterward on November 10, 1775, to augment naval forces in the Revolutionary War, and conduct ship-to-ship fighting. Tun Tavern on Water Street in Philadelphia is considered to be the birthplace of the Marines – the branch in which I am proud to have served. Currently, there are nearly 200,000 Marines serving on active duty, and roughly 40,000 in the reserves, many of whom live and serve in our great Commonwealth. I am pleased to offer this resolution to honor them, and all those who came before them. Last year’s co-sponsors of SR355 include: Sens. Brooks, Laughlin, Mensch, Martin, Langerholc, Bartolotta, Kane, Hughes, Street, Browne, Argall, Hutchinson, Muth, Schwank, Phillips-Hill, Comitta, Stefano, Dush, Costa, Mastriano, Brewster, and Tartaglione. Please join me in showing our appreciation for these brave men and women by sponsoring this resolution, and you may direct any questions to my staff at 717-787-5839. Thank you. |
