Subject: | Grow Jobs through Apprenticeships Act |
Soon, I will be introducing legislation that would require state licensing bodies to count the hours invested in apprenticeships for credit towards a state occupational license. My legislation would authorize the use of state regulated apprenticeships to fulfill licensure requirements necessary to perform certain occupations. This would have to be a multi-agency effort, including Department of Health, Department of Human Services, and Labor & Industry, since the registered apprenticeship programs in PA are associated with all those agencies. Four states (Arkansas, Iowa, Idaho, & Utah) have passed similar legislation and five states (Arizona, Maryland, Maine, Ohio, & Virginia) have introduced it as well. As apprenticeship programs have become increasingly important in filling the Commonwealth’s skilled workforce needs, this update to professional licensing requirements will be very helpful. Please join me in supporting this important legislation. |
