MEMORANDUM

Posted: December 7, 2022 11:02 AM
From: Senator Judith L. Schwank and Sen. Maria Collett
To: All Senate members
Subject: Access to Contraceptives

In the near future, we will be reintroducing SB353 from last session. This legislation will ensure a greater degree of access to contraceptives for women within the Commonwealth.

People use contraception for their own, individual reasons, The primary reason is to avoid an unintended pregnancy.  The ability to control ones family planning has far-reaching implications such as having/keeping a career, better care of themselves and/or their family, along with more stability and control over their lives.

This bill would expand access to individual reproductive control by requiring insurers to provide coverage for contraceptives, eliminate most co-payments for related coverage, lift pre-authorizations on certain contraceptives, and authorize insurers to provide coverage of 12 months of birth control at one time.

Please join us in supporting this important piece of legislation.

This bill is a companion bill to legislation introduced by Rep. Leanne Krueger. Co-sponsors from 2021-22 were Senators Costa, Hughes, Fontana, Kearney, Street, Santarsiero, Tartaglione, Cappelletti, Kane, Muth, Comitta, Haywood and L. Williams.
