Subject: | Capping Automatic Cost of Living Pay Raises for Legislators, Judges, and Executive Officials |
In the near future, I will reintroduce legislation to amend the state law that ties the salary raises of public officials to the year-over-year change in the consumer price index. The Governor, cabinet members, statewide elected officers, judges, and members of the General Assembly will all be receiving a 7.8% salary increase this year. A taxpayer-funded pay raise of this size cannot be allowed to happen in the future. Many of the men and women in our commonwealth’s workforce do not receive the same type of automatic annual pay raise tied to inflation. As public servants, we should not receive special treatment when it comes to our salary. My bill will amend the Public Official Compensation Law to cap automatic cost of living pay raises indefinitely. Prior co-sponsors of this legislation include Senators PHILLIPS-HILL, GEBHARD, STEFANO, J. WARD and MARTIN Please join me in co-sponsoring this important legislation.
