Subject: | PA Supreme Court Justices: Re-election every four years rather than retention every 10 years |
I will be reintroducing Senate Bill 1325 of the 2021-2022 legislative sesssion to amend the Constitution of Pennsylvania that the Justices of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania will have to run for re-election every four years rather than filing for retention every 10 years. Currently, the merit retention provision of Pennsylvania’s Constitution allows all but Magisterial District Judges to be retained with a simple “yes” or “no” vote without ballot reference to political affiliation. My legislation will only apply to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, not any other Courts, in requiring the Supreme Court Justices to run for re-election every four years. Thank you for your consideration of cosponsoring this measure. |
