Senate of Pennsylvania
Session of 2023 - 2024 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 23, 2023 11:24 AM
From: Senator Amanda M. Cappelletti
To: All Senate members
Subject: Cervical Cancer Awareness Month

January is recognized across the nation as Cervical Cancer Awareness month, a time to raise public awareness about cervical health and the importance of getting regular cervical cancer screenings. Once a leading cause of death, cervical cancer is highly preventable and highly curable if caught early. According to the National Cancer Institute, nearly all cervical cancers could be prevented by HPV vaccination, routine cervical cancer screening, and appropriate follow-up treatment when needed.

Although it is highly preventable, about 13,000 new cases of cervical cancer are reported annually, and about 4,000 women every year die of this cancer. Awareness of cervical cancer, its risk factors, and the importance of access to preventative measures are critical to perpetuating the continual decrease of the incidence of cervical cancer in women in Pennsylvania and across the nation.

I hope you will join in this resolution declaring January as "Cervical Cancer Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania.
