MEMORANDUM

Posted: March 15, 2023 03:32 PM
From: Senator Katie J. Muth
To: All Senate members
Subject: Recognizing March 2023 as “National Athletic Training Month” in Pennsylvania

I will soon be introducing a resolution that recognizes March 2023 as “National Athletic Training Month” in Pennsylvania.

Licensed athletic trainers have a long history of providing quality health care based on evidence-based knowledge and skills acquired through their nationally regulated educational processes. They are highly skilled health care professionals who specialize in immediate, acute and emergency care; examination, assessment, and diagnosis; injury prevention; risk management; therapeutic intervention; and rehabilitation of injury and illness.

Athletic trainers are an integral part of the healthcare system who specialize in person-centered care, including preventive, rehabilitative and emergency health care administration for people of all ages; follow the practice of evidence-based health care; conduct important outcomes-based assessments and clinical research; assess and treat concussion injuries; and provide compassionate care for all. They work in a variety of settings, including professional sports, colleges and universities, high schools, clinics and hospitals, corporate and industrial settings, performing arts and every branch of the United States military.

Leading organizations concerned with athletic training and health care have united in a common commitment to raise public awareness of the importance of the profession of athletic training and the role of athletic trainers in the provision of quality health care services. Efforts such as these will improve health care for patients and promote licensed athletic trainers as health professionals.

Join me in supporting the important work of these professionals by recognizing March 2023 as “National Athletic Training Month” in Pennsylvania.
