Subject: | Recognizing May 2023 as "Older Americans Month" |
In the near future, I plan to reintroduce a resolution recognizing the month of May 2023 as Older Americans Month in Pennsylvania. Our nation has made great strides to support older Americans as they transition into their new phase of life, and since 1963, we have honored their legacies and ongoing contributions through Older Americans Month. In Pennsylvania, during this monthly designation, we recognize the contributions made by older persons, and we pay tribute to their accomplishments within our communities. This year’s theme is “Aging Unbound”, which offers us an opportunity to explore diverse aging experiences and to reflect on the positive aspects of growing older. Additionally, this theme highlights why everyone has a role to play in combating ageism and how we all benefit when older adults remain engaged, independent, and included in their communities. In the spirit of Older Americans Month, I encourage everyone to engage in activities that elevate and support seniors across the Commonwealth. Whether it’s creating a forum for older adults to share their stories, organizing a community event inclusive of all ages, or fundraising on behalf of local programs that serve older adults, there are many ways we can celebrate older Pennsylvanians this May and beyond. Please join me in co-sponsoring this resolution on behalf of older citizens in this Commonwealth. |
