| Subject: | Designating September 2023 as "Childhood Cancer Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania |
| In the near future, I will reintroduce a resolution similar to Senate Resolution 342 from the 2021-22 Legislative Session designating September 2023 as “Childhood Cancer Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania. In Pennsylvania, there are many children battling pediatric cancer every day with courage and determination that inspires us all. I am grateful to say that this inspiration has spurred action both with Pennsylvanian charitable organizations and in the Pennsylvania General Assembly to help find a cure and increase the quality of life for our little warriors. Our consistent and collaborative efforts have led to historic funding towards pediatric cancer research and allowed us to spearhead initiatives to create greater access to social structures that in turn helps to provide better stability and development for our children. Together we have helped to provide hope for children and families battling cancer that in turn has catapulted Pennsylvania to the status of a national leader in the fight against pediatric cancer. However, their fight and our fight does not end here. I am proud to introduce this resolution as a statement that we will not rest on this issue and get comfortable while pediatric cancer families and their children continue to fight for their lives. This resolution will honor their battle and hopefully raise awareness with the general public in ways that they can help. For example, amongst the many deserving charitable causes, citizens can learn more about, and potentially donate to, the Pediatric Cancer Research Fund that can be found on the Pennsylvania Department of Health website here. Just as important, this resolution will recognize the hard work and dedication of the medical professionals who heal, comfort and support these brave kids. Previous co-sponsors of SR 342 were: Laughlin, Browne, Cappelletti, Mensch, Gebhard, Langerholc, Hughes, Regan, Bartolotta, Argall, Kane, Dillon, Street, Brooks, Fontana, Robinson, Phillips-Hill, Hutchinson, Comitta, Tartaglione, Stefano, Dush, Costa, Mastriano and Brewster. Please join me in cosponsoring this important resolution to continue to raise awareness and show our support for our family members, neighbors, friends and colleagues affected by pediatric cancer. |
