MEMORANDUM

Posted: August 24, 2023 10:16 AM
From: Senator Chris Gebhard
To: All Senate members
Subject: Resolution to Recognize Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day

The purpose of this memo is to recognize October 13th, 2023 as Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day, which emphasizes the importance and the need for increased research, funding, and support for those affected.

Metastatic Breast Cancer, also known as Stage IV breast cancer, is when the cancer spreads beyond the breast to other parts of the body. Unlike other stages of breast cancer, metastatic is not curable, but it is treatable. It represents the most advanced stage of the disease, where the cancer cells have traveled to other organs such as the liver, brain, lungs, and bones.

Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day is an essential day to:
  1. Educate the public on the distinct challenges faced by metastatic breast cancer patients.
  2. Advocate for more research specifically targeting metastatic disease.
  3. Support and recognize the resilience of metastatic breast cancer patients, their families, and caregivers.

By recognizing Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day, we not only raise awareness about the disease but also show our solidarity with those affected. Let us come together to foster understanding, provide support, and push for the advancement in treatments and ultimately, a cure.

Thank you for considering co-sponsoring this important resolution.
