Subject: | U.S. Navy Birthday |
In the near future, I will introduce a resolution recognizing October 13, 2023 as the 248th birthday of the United States Navy in Pennsylvania. As a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, which is a component of the Department of the Navy, I am pleased to recognize this important anniversary to honor and commemorate this branch and its sailors responsible for on, above, and below water U.S. military force. On October 13, 1775, the Second Continental Congress passed a resolution creating the Continental Navy. In the weeks and months following, the newly established naval forces protected American trade from British blockade and predation, intercepted ships, and supplied General George Washington with an armed schooner and sloop to seize British supplies. These immediate actions proved to be successful, and soon, the naval force was extended all along the east coast to protect and defend the Colonies. Today, the United States Navy continues to courageously defend our freedom, preserve economic prosperity, and keep the seas open and free through sustained forward presence. Please join me in honoring all Sailors who have served in our distinguished and successful United States Navy through all 248 years. |
