Subject: | Resolution Celebrating the 215th anniversary of the Pennsylvania Bible Society |
Soon, I will introduce a resolution celebrating the 215th anniversary of the Pennsylvania Bible Society The Pennsylvania Bible Society began as, simply, the Bible Society and was the first bible society to be formed in the United States. In 1812 it became the Bible Society of Philadelphia before becoming the Pennsylvania Bible Society in 1840. The Pennsylvania Bible Society operates to distribute bibles to anyone who wants one. Many founding fathers, such as Thomas Jefferson, John Hancock, Samuel Chase, James Wilson, George Reed, John Dickinson, Alexander Hamilton, Gunning Bedford, Jared Ingersoll, Thomas Mifflin, and John Lansing, funded printings of the bible in the early days of our nation because they, like the Pennsylvania Bible Society, believed that it was important for everyone to have access to a bible. Because of the important work the Pennsylvania Bible Society does proving access to the bible and the relationship of bible societies with our founding fathers, I ask that you please join me in cosponsoring this important resolution. |
