MEMORANDUM

Posted: December 28, 2023 02:18 PM
From: Senator John DiSanto
To: All Senate members
Subject: Designating February 2024 as "Turner Syndrome Awareness Month"

I will soon be introducing a resolution to designate February 2024 as “Turner Syndrome Awareness Month.” Turner Syndrome is a chromosomal abnormality that randomly affects females, occurring when the secondary X chromosome is partially or completely missing.

Unfortunately, there is no known cause for this condition which affects 1 out of every 2,000 female births. Symptoms can vary depending on the severity of the chromosomal defect, but almost all girls and women with the syndrome experience ovarian failure and infertility. Other health concerns of Turner Syndrome include cardiovascular disease, issues with the kidneys and thyroid, diabetes and hearing deficiencies. Early detection and intervention have demonstrated long-term positive outcomes for those living with Turner Syndrome.

By designating February 2024 as “Turner Syndrome Awareness Month,” we can provide an opportunity to share experiences and information with the public, to raise awareness and encourage early diagnosis and treatment, and to provide support and comfort to those living with this condition.

I hope you will join me as a co-sponsor in designating February 2024 as “Turner Syndrome Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania.

Introduced as SR230
