Senate of Pennsylvania
Session of 2023 - 2024 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: April 25, 2024 12:11 PM
From: Senator Mike Regan
To: All Senate members
Subject: Police Week and Police Officers’ Memorial Day Resolution

I intend to introduce a resolution recognizing the week of May 12th through May 18th as “National Police Week” and designate May 6th as “Police Officers’ Memorial Day” in Pennsylvania.

On May 6th the annual Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Pennsylvania State Lodge Police Memorial Ceremony will be held at 5pm in the Capitol Rotunda to honor the brave law enforcement officers who died in the line-of-duty.

Six officers will be honored at this year’s ceremony:
  • Patrolman Charles G. Stipetich – Oakdale Borough Police Department – EOW: Sunday, July 3, 2022
  • Chief Justin McIntire – Brackenridge Borough Police Department – EOW: Monday, January 2, 2023
  • Police Officer Sean Sluganski – McKeesport Police Department – EOW: Monday, February 6, 2023
  • Sergeant Christopher Fitzgerald – Temple University Police Department – EOW: Saturday, February 18, 2023
  • Trooper Jacques F. Rougeau, Jr. – Pennsylvania State Police – EOW: Saturday, June 17, 2023
  • Sergeant Richard Carrero Mendez – Philadelphia Police Department – EOW: Thursday, October 12, 2023

I encourage you to note whether these officers were your constituent and to take a moment to reflect on each officer’s sacrifice and the family they left behind.

The brave men and women of law enforcement, who are some of the most selfless public servants this country has ever seen, don their uniform and strap on their firearm every day while facing the realization that it could be their last.

Please join me in memorializing our fallen Pennsylvania law enforcement officers, whose End of Watch came entirely too soon.
