Subject: Cyber Charter Reform - Statewide Direct-Pay System

Please join me in co-sponsoring legislation that would ensure a prescribed manner of funding cyber charter schools in the Commonwealth.

The past several years have reinforced the idea that every student is unique, and every young person learns differently. Many young people thrive in an online learning environment that best suits their individualized needs. It is critical we preserve these options while also determining the exact number of students who have enrolled in schools other than their home school district. I believe this new policy proposal will help Pennsylvania children achieve success.

Specifically, the legislation would transition the payment for cyber charter school students’ tuition from school districts to the Commonwealth over the course of the next three years and establishes a new statewide tuition rate for cyber charter school students better aligned with the cost of cyber charter school operations.

It is my belief this legislation will offer financial relief to school districts, provide sufficient resources for successful cyber charter school operations and reduce the animosity between school districts and cyber charter schools.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this important legislation.
