MEMORANDUM

Posted: June 20, 2024 11:26 AM
From: Senator Amanda M. Cappelletti
To: All Senate members
Subject: Recognizing June 2024 as Migraine and Headache Awareness Month

In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution to designate June 2024 as “Migraine and Headache Awareness Month". As part of my continued commitment to health and wellness, this designation aims to increase awareness, promote better understanding, and encourage the development of more effective treatments and support systems for those affected by these conditions.

Migraine and headache disorders impact over one billion people worldwide, with more than 40 million individuals in the United States alone suffering from migraines and similar headache disorders. These conditions are not just a health issue but a significant social and economic burden, often leading to missed workdays, reduced productivity, and diminished quality of life.

Migraine and Headache Awareness Month calls upon individuals, healthcare providers, policymakers, and organizations to join forces in advocating for better treatment options and support mechanisms. The goals are clear:  improve the quality of life for those living with migraines and headaches, promote research for new treatments, and foster a more inclusive understanding of these often-misunderstood disorders.

Migraines and headaches not only cause severe pain and disability but also affect mental health, leading to conditions such as anxiety and depression. By raising awareness and understanding, we can work towards creating a supportive environment that addresses both the physical and emotional challenges faced by those with migraine and headache disorders.

Please join me in supporting this important resolution and in taking steps to raise awareness and advocate for better care and support for all affected by migraines and headaches.

Introduced as SR313
