Subject: | Disability Pride Day |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution recognizing September 7th, 2024, as Disability Pride Day in Pennsylvania. September 7th, which falls on a Saturday this year, has been chosen for recognition because it coincides with Disability Pride Pennsylvania’s day of celebration in Philadelphia. Kicking off at City Hall at 11 AM and moving to the Benjamin Franklin Parkway at noon, all people, whether you are a person with a disability, a family member of a person with a disability, or an ally, are invited to attend. As Disability Pride Pennsylvania states in its mission, Disability Pride is above all a celebration of inclusion and disabled people who are proud to be themselves. It represents a place for us to celebrate the disability experience and bring disabled and non-disabled people together. Disability Pride Pennsylvania began in Philadelphia over a decade ago and has since expanded to serve the Commonwealth as an organization advocating for disability rights and inclusion of all people. The organization has hosted pride celebrations, seminars, and other events to support the disability community across the state including Harrisburg, the Lehigh Valley, Williamsport, Pittsburgh, and Northeast Pennsylvania. Please join me in co-sponsoring this important resolution and helping all residents of the Commonwealth understand and celebrate the uniqueness and pride in all of us. |
