Senate of Pennsylvania
Session of 2023 - 2024 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: August 16, 2024 09:42 AM
From: Senator Devlin J. Robinson
To: All Senate members
Subject: Licensure of Electrical Contractors and Electricians

In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation to require statewide licensing for electrical contractors and electricians. Electrical work is a dangerous occupation, yet Pennsylvania is in the minority of states in not requiring electricians or electrical contractors to be licensed. Without proper licensing, there is greater risk of worker injury and fatality. Unqualified electrical contractors and electricians can also result in poor quality installations, creating safety risks and causing costly repairs for consumers.

In addition to worker safety and work quality, establishing statewide licensing requirements will allow for reciprocity with other states. This will allow Pennsylvania contractors and electricians to more easily work in other states with licensing requirements.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this important legislation to protect Pennsylvania workers and consumers by ensuring only qualified contractors and electricians are working on electrical projects throughout the state.
