Subject: | Improving and Expanding Access to Career & Technical Education |
Career & Technical Education (CTE) is a smart investment in Pennsylvania’s future. It creates pathways for students to enter highly-skilled, family-sustaining jobs through experiential learning, post-secondary credits, and industry certifications. I have met with many students who have graduated high school and smoothly transitioned into successful careers and post-secondary opportunities thanks to CTE. But I have also met with workers who did not and wished they could have been exposed to high-paying, in-demand fields earlier. Aging facilities, lack of predictable funding, and challenges recruiting and retaining educators are just some of the many challenges that CTE programs face – often forcing them to turn away students or delay opening new programs. All of this impacts the future of Pennsylvania’s economy and workforce. I intend to introduce a package of legislation aimed at improving and expanding access to high-quality, inclusive career and technical education. From supporting promising educators transitioning from industry to the classroom and creating pathways to clean jobs to diversifying our workforce and funding CTC facilities busting at the seams -- there is much we can do to foster collaboration and innovation in both regional Career & Technical Education Centers and district-run programs. Please join me in supporting our CTE students and educators by improving and expanding access to high-quality, inclusive Career & Technical Education across the Commonwealth. |
