Subject: | Designating September 2024 as “National Recovery Month” in Pennsylvania |
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has designated every September since 1989 as “National Recovery Month”. This annual national observance promotes and supports new evidence-based treatment and practices for our recovery communities. The latest edition of the National Survey on Drug Use and Health shows that 12.8 million people nationally received substance use treatment in the past year. Nationally, 30.5 million people believe they’ve had a substance use problem during their lives. 22.2 million or 73% of those people consider themselves to be in recovery. As the survey shows and we have experienced in our own lives, substance use disorder can impact parents, children, siblings, relatives, neighbors, colleagues and friends. It is important that we fund and provide drug and alcohol addiction treatment services to Pennsylvanians with substance use disorder. Please join us in cosponsoring this resolution to designate September 2024 as “National Recovery Month” and to help promote the importance of recovery. |
