MEMORANDUM

Posted: August 27, 2024 04:40 PM
From: Senator Lynda Schlegel Culver
To: All Senate members
Subject: Joseph McGranaghan Memorial Highway

In the near future, I will be introducing legislation designating the Southern Section of the Central Susquehanna Valley Thruway in Monroe Township and Shamokin Dam Borough, Snyder County, as the Joseph McGranaghan Memorial Highway.

As a public servant, Joe served for 20 years as a councilman of Shamokin Dam Borough, eventually becoming Mayor in 2009.  Prior to his role as councilman and Mayor of Shamokin Dam Borough, Joe also served 4 years as a councilman in Chambersburg.  He served as president of the Susquehanna Industrial Development Corporation from 1989 to 1994 and chaired the Chamber’s Transportation Committee and the Central Susquehanna Valley Thruway Task Force, an organization comprised of elected officials and community volunteers.  As a member of the Central Susquehanna Valley Thruway Task Force, Joe was a very instrumental figure in working to secure funding for the Routes 11 & 15 bypass project which is referred to as the Central Susquehanna Valley Thruway.

In addition to his role as a dedicated public servant, Joe was the former executive vice president and chief operating officer of Sunbury Broadcasting Company.  Joe also served as general manager of its radio stations, WKOK-AM and WKOK-FM until his retirement from Sunbury Broadcasting Corporation in 2008 but continued to host a very popular public affairs call-in show called “On the Mark.”

Please consider co-sponsoring this legislation and join me in honoring the life and public service of Joseph McGranaghan.
