Subject: | 77th Birthday of the United States Air Force and the Air National Guard |
In the near future, I will introduce a resolution commemorating September 18, 2024 as the 77th birthday of the United States Air Force and the Air National Guard. The United States Air Force was originally created on August 1, 1907 as a part of the United States Army Signal Corps. Originally the Aeronautical Division of the Signal Corps, the Air Force would become the U.S. Army Air Forces in 1941 and essentially acted as an independent branch during World War II. However, it wasn’t until the National Defense Security Act was signed into law by President Truman that the Air Force was officially able to become an independent branch. The birthday of the Air Force and Air National Guard coincide with the date that the first secretary of the Air Force, W. Stuart Symington, was sworn in, on September 18, 1947. Please join me in cosponsoring this important resolution that recognizes the birthday of the Air Force. |
